The Challenge of
Christian Education in the
Tamajaq Context.
Faith, growth and maturity are all results of consistent study of God’s
Word. When people are studying the Bible, generally speaking they will
grow. So the challenge is how to encourage daily study of God's Word.
For a number of years now, the SIM Tamajaq team has been using TEE as a
method of Christian education and discipleship. TEE stands for Theological
Education by Extension. It is a Bible school that never leaves home.
Students have a daily lesson that takes them about a half hour everyday.
Once a week, we come together and discuss what we have been studying.
Why TEE? It is true that the TEE classes are not as academically
demanding as a traditional Bible school course, but they are constant.
People can take TEE courses without having to quit work, leave home.
Students can apply what they are learning to their immediate lives and ministry
in the local church.
Through TEE, people are encouraged to have a consistent time in the Word
everyday. In a society of non-readers, these Tamajaq believers are now
becoming readers. And because the materials are translated into Tamajaq,
they are studying the Bible in their own language.
Many of us are starting to believe that TEE could be an important tool for
Christian Education across the country in all the churches of
Niger
.
