Care Package Ideas

We have been asked many times what churches or individuals could send to the field to encourage their missionaries. We can't speak for all missionaries, but here is our response to this question:
Hamburger helper packages. Having a few of these on hand gives us a quick meal option. Usually all our meals are made from scratch so this is a nice break for Mikki. You needn't send the whole box. Just put the contents in a ziploc bag (don't forget to clip and send the instructions).
Chocolate. Never a bad time to send chocolate but if it is sent in December or January, there is a good chance it wouldn't be melted when it arrives. This is our cold season.
Coffee. We like flavored coffee for a drip coffee maker. Our favorite flavors are French Vanilla and Hazelnut but are open to trying new things.
Kool-Aid. Kool-Aid is like a second currency on the mission field. It is very popular among young and old and is easy to send. Can even fit into an envelope.
Good books. If there is a good book that has really meant a lot to you, it is a good chance it would be a blessing to a missionary as well.
Good DVDs. Every once in a while we like to sit back and enjoy a good movie. We like them all, comedy, drama, musicals, oldies, etc. (PG or G is preferred).
Mailing tips
Packages have to be sent airmail. If they are sent surface, they can take over a year to arrive.
Keep boxes small and light. If you try to pack a big box, you will be shocked how much it will cost you.
Security. We have not had a lot of items stolen over the years from packages. Clothing is maybe the most risky. But we generally get all the packages safely that are sent. Make sure that the box is sturdy and well taped.
